Paulla De Souza

Who is Paulla De Souza? She is a Guyanese native who is a highly skilled professional with over 20 years’ working experience in the beauty industry; her specialty is in hair and makeup. Her work was featured on international stages in the Caribbean, South America, London and Ghana. Throughout her career she has travelled to over 17 countries. Though she has been exposed to almost every area of the industry, she recently is focusing her energy on education, the fashion, beauty, bridal industry, as well as social makeup.

Her Beginning: Paulla started off as a hairdresser who attended Cosmetology school in Trinidad to acquire her Diploma and Advance Cutting and Styling Skills. During this period she was introduced to makeup artistry and it was immediately recognized that she had a natural flare for makeup, so she was encouraged to pursue a career in this field. In 1997 she had her first introduction to world of film and tv when she worked on the locally produced and televised series for 3 seasons.

Education: Paulla credits her success as a primarily self-taught makeup artist to the guidance received working alongside her mentor, the late Jean Innis, for several years, her international exposure working with Valente Frazier (Trya Bank’s MUA) in 2004 at Barbados Fashion Week, and definitely the editorial master classes she invested in with US-based Monifa Mortis, Danessa Myricks, Dany Sanz, and Marietta Carter-Narcisse

Her Style: Paulla describes her makeup style as “effortless beauty” which she views as a cross between editorial glam and clean beauty. Her signature style is clean, beautiful, radiant skin. "Less is more" is her beauty mantra.

Career Accomplishment: Paulla’s proudest moment came about when she realized she made an impact on the regional makeup scene. She was twice nominated by the Barbados Fashion Week Team, which recognized her among the top 5 Best Makeup Artists in the Caribbean.
